What is the best way to remove large bloodstains on walls and carpets

It is easier to remove wet blood than blood stains. You cannot scrub your carpet throughout the process to remove blood stains because it drives the stain deeper into the carpet fibers.

For cleaning solution, you will need different type of solvent for different type of carpet. Here is the list of solvent for different carpets:

Wool carpet: 1 teaspoon non-alkali detergent with 1 cup clean water

Synthetics carpet: 2 tablespoons household ammonia with 1 cup clean water

Oriental carpet: 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts clean water

For the rinsing solution, you will need 2-6 drops non-alkali dish detergent with 1 cup clean water. Other equipment you will need is clean towels and a spray bottle.

Start with blotting the blood stains from the outside towards the center using a clean towel. Blot the blood stains as much as possible, do not scrub and keep the stain from spreading.

Spray the stains with clean water. Blot with a clean towel and remove the stain as much as possible. Then spray the stain with a small amount of cleaning solution. Blot with a clean towel again until no more stain appear on the towel. You will need to change your towel a lot or you can use a clean patch of the towel each time as you are blotting to avoid spreading the stain. Repeat this process several times until the stain is no longer visible.

Once the blood stains clear, spray the rinsing solution and blot with a clean towel to remove. Then spray with clean water and blot with clean towel. Repeat this process as necessary until the cleaning solution is removed completely. Cover the stains with clean towels and put a weight on top. Leave for several hours to allow the towels absorb any remaining liquid.

Remove weights and towels. Let the area air dry. When it has dried completely, vacuum the carpet thoroughly to restore the texture and remove any cleaning solution residue. If the stain spot turns brown when it dries, apply solution of 1 part vinegar with 2 parts water and blot to dry.
